The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, on Friday, June 26, 2020 presented 400 customised litter bins to the Ministry of the Interior as part of Government’s effort of keeping a clean environment at a brief ceremony, here, in Accra.

The donation of the litter bins is part of the continuous support by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources to Institutions, Corporate Bodies, Communities and allied agencies to support them in their waste management and clean up exercises.

Presenting the bins, Hon. Cecilia Dapaah indicated that the bin project is a nationwide program initiated by the Sanitation Ministry mostly to promote good sanitation and hygiene in the Country, adding that the Project which will span over a five-year period is to ensure that every part of the Country is clean in the realization of the vision of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa  Akufo Addo.

Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah stated that the donation to the Ministry of the Interior was to show appreciation to the Ministry and its Security Agencies for their support during the cleanup exercises in parts of the Country especially during the lock down period.

She further indicated that the donation was also to strengthen the already cordial relationship between the two Ministries.

The Sanitation Minister noted that outbreak of cholera is also to be taken seriously even though we now fighting the COVID 19 pandemic and advised that the safety protocol laid down should be adhered to stop the spread.

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery (MP) who received the donations commended Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah for the kind gesture.

He said the litter bins would further be distributed to all the Security Agencies under his Ministry which will go a long way to improve upon the sanitation and hygiene situations in the country.

Mr. Dery further said the items would be used judiciously to support the Government’s effort in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and urged the Security Agencies to lift high the safety protocol measures to contain the spread.

He, however, assured the Sanitation Minister of the continuous support of the Interior Ministry in the activities and programs of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.

The Interior Minister was ably supported by Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Adelaide Anno-Kumi, Special Advisor to the Minister, Mr. Abdulai Bawumia, a Representative of the IGP, a Representative of the Chief Fire Officer and other senior staff of the Ministry.
