A Seven-Member delegation from Italy, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Interior, Mr. Matteo Salvini has called on the Minister for the Interior in Accra.

The brief meeting centered on migration and other related issues between the two countries.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Ambrose Dery, Minister for the Interior indicated that, the government of Ghana is committed to dealing with the factors underpinning illegal migration including unemployment.

“The only way to mitigate illegal migration is to stem the basic things which compel people to undertake such journeys and this is exactly what President Akufo-Addo is pursuing through his flagship One Village One Dam; Planting for Food and Jobs; One District One Factory and Free SHS initiatives” he stressed.

Mr. Dery thus implored Italian businesses and individuals to take advantage of the flagship programmes and the enabling environment consciously being created by government to come and invest in Ghana.

The Minister for the Interior also called for security collaboration between the two countries in respect of capacity building for security agencies to effectively manage our borders as well as protect life and properties.

Mr. Salvini, on his part indicated that, Ghana is one of the safest and democratically stable countries Italy wants to cooperate with and was therefore optimistic that a lot could be achieved under a security cooperation.
