The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), H. E. Niloy Banerjee has led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss areas of collaboration and Ghana’s efforts at maintaining peace and security.
During the meeting, the UNDP delegation expressed interest in the strategic direction of the Ministry and commended Ghana for its strong peace architecture, policies and initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the country. The delegation noted that Ghana’s approach to peacebuilding continues to serve as a good example within the region and beyond.
H.E. Niloy Banerjee further expressed excitement about the Peace Index and Peace Map initiatives, describing them as innovative tools that could help strengthen conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts.
The delegation also lauded the vision of the Minister for the entire security sector and reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security and development.
For his part, the Minister for the Interior stressed the importance of coordination and collaboration between the Ministry and development partners such as UNDP. He briefed the delegation on key reforms, policies and progress being undertaken under the Ministry, including ongoing digitalisation efforts, the proposed Community Service Bill aimed at easing pressure on the country’s prisons, and the Parole Bill.
Hon. Muntaka also highlighted the significance of the Peace Map and Peace Index initiatives in strengthening national peace and security mechanisms and called for continued partnership and support from UNDP to advance the Ministry’s objectives.
The Minister thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed optimism about deepening cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP in areas of mutual interest.
