The Ministry of the Interior has joined the United Nations family to commemorate 80 years of global service, peace-building, and sustainable development. As part of the ‘8 Trees for 8 Decades’ Initiative, Ministry and UN officials jointly planted a tree on the Ministry’s compound to symbolise their commitment to sustainability, inclusion, resilience, and progress.

Hon. Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, stressed the significance of the tree planting, stating, “This tree stands as a symbol of the thematic pillar we represent and of our collective responsibility to nurture the roots of development for generations to come.”

According to him, the initiative highlights the importance of climate action and underscores Ghana’s commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future.

‘As we mark this occasion, we are reminded that the journey to a sustainable future requires collective action. We invite individuals, organisations, and communities to join hands in promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship. By working together, we can nurture the roots of development and build a brighter future for generations to come,’ he stated.

Hon. Terlabi, noted that this celebration is not just about the past, but about the promise of the future. ‘Let us grow for the future, just as the tree planted today will grow strong and tall, symbolising our enduring partnership with the United Nations and our commitment to a better tomorrow’ he added.

The Chief of Mission for the International Organisation for Migration, Ms. Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, thanked the Ministry of the Interior for its continued support, stating that the 80 years of UN existence in Ghana is a testament to collaboration, which must be encouraged.
