The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed–Mubarak, has commended the National Centre for Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism (NCCRM) for its vital contributions to national security and peacebuilding during a familiarisation visit to the Minister.
The engagement, held at the Ministry, highlighted the importance of early warning systems in preventing conflicts and addressing emerging threats beyond traditional notions of security.
In his remarks, the Minister praised the NCCRM’s publications as a very useful tool for stakeholders and policymakers. He emphasised that the absence of war does not necessarily equate to peace, underscoring the need for proactive measures to maintain stability, describing the Centre’s work as commendable, particularly given resource constraints, and expressed satisfaction with their efforts.
Hon. Muntaka stressed the importance of sensitising communities on early warning indicators, investing in early warning imports (tools and systems) as a cost-effective way to address issues before they escalate, and popularising the Centre’s work to build broader awareness and support. He called for greater teamwork across institutions and urged the media to dedicate more time and space to discussions on early warnings and related topics.
The Coordinator of the Centre, Col. Emmanuel Sampson, thanked the Minister for the warm reception and continued support. He highlighted the Centre’s ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation with the National Peace Council and noted that the NCCRM’s mandate extends beyond human security to encompass other thematic areas critical to national and regional stability.
