The Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Dr Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, has commended the Ministry of the Interior for its punctuality and dedication to work, describing it as a key attribute for delivering on Government’s mandate.
Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the Ministry in Accra, Dr Kannae said time is critical in every endeavour and stressed that the Civil Service remains the main vehicle for executing the Government’s Resetting Agenda.
He explained that such visits allow the Council to understand the work of ministries, assess operations on the ground, and identify areas for service improvement.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ministries to improve institutional effectiveness and service delivery in line with national development goals.
Head of the Civil Service, Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, also addressed staff and management, highlighting the Ministry’s crucial role in safeguarding public safety. “You cannot talk about order without the law. If there is general violence in the country, civil servants and workers cannot go to work,” he said. Dr Aggrey-Darkoh urged the Ministry to maintain peace and security without lowering the bar, noting that a stable environment is essential for productivity across the public service.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Doreen Annan, Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, thanked the Council for the visit and said it reflected a strong partnership between the Ministry and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service. She stated that effective collaboration and communication between OHCS and the Ministry form the bedrock of a responsive, efficient and professional Civil Service.
Mrs. Annan assured the Council that the Ministry remains resolute in its mission to safeguard internal security and deliver efficient, citizen-centred services. She noted that the Ministry is committed to upholding the core values of discipline, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of its duties.
The familiarisation visit included interactions with management and staff, presentations on the Ministry’s operations, and discussions on challenges and priorities.
The Council’s visit to the Ministry forms part of a nationwide programme to engage Ministries, Departments and Agencies to strengthen collaboration and enhance public sector delivery.
