The Gaming Commission of Ghana is an Agency under the Ministry of the Interior with continuous progression and a common seal, which was established under the Gaming Act 2006, (Act 721). The Act legalizes all forms of Games of Chance in Ghana except Lottery. The Act empowers the Commission, in the discharge of its functions to acquire and hold any movable or immovable property and enter into contracts or other transactions. The gaming industry in Ghana was previously regulated under the Lotteries and Betting Act, 1960 (Act31), the Football Pools Authority Act 1961, (Act 78) the Gambling Machines Decree 1973 (NRCD 174) and Casino Licensing Decree 1975 (NRCD 320).Until the establishment of the Gaming Commission, the Ministry of the Interior had oversight responsibility for the regulation of Casinos and other games of chance. The Gaming Act further states that ,where there is hindrance to the acquisition of property, the property may be acquired for the Commission under the State Property and Contracts Act, 1960 (C.A.6) or the State Lands Act, 1962 (Act 125) and the costs shall be borne by the Commission. The Government of Ghana enacted the Narcotics Drugs (Control, Enforcement and Sanctions) Law, 1990/PNDC Act 236 in 1990 (PNDCL 236). Section 55 of PNDCL 236 provides for the establishment of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) now known Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Act 1019 was established in November, 1990 as the central coordinating body for dealing with the rising incidence of drug abuses in the country and the threatening dimensions that illicit drug trafficking, had taken globally, sub-regionally and nationally. Policy Objectives In line with the United Nations guidelines in tackling the drug problem under the Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Outline (CMO), the Board’s main functions are centered on: Enforcement and Control Aimed at reducing narcotic drugs in the society at large, by arrests and prosecution of cultivators, traffickers, peddlers and users and thus control the supply of narcotic drugs to the minimum. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is one of the Agencies under the Ministry of the Interior. The Service was re-established by an Act of Parliament in 1997, Ghana National Fire Service Act, 1997, Act 537. The objective of the Service is to prevent and manage undesired fire. Under the strategic objectives of the mother ministry, The Ghana National Fire Service is required to provide adequate protection of life and property and sensitize and provide technical assistance and advice to schools, markets, MMDAs, lorry parks and other institutions nationwide on fire safety measures. The major programme and project assigned to the Service is Fire Management, Rescue and Extrication services.
