Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of Interior, on his visit to the regional headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service in Tamale, emphasized that retooling the fire service is a top priority for Government to improve the working conditions and operational capacity of the Service to ensure it is well-equipped to serve the nation effectively.
During his visit, the Minister condemned the recent attacks on fire service personnel. He revealed ongoing discussions with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide escorts for officers, ensuring their safety while on duty.
Additionally, he disclosed that talks are underway with the National Insurance Commission to secure insurance coverage for fire service officers, offering them greater protection and support.
Hon. Muntaka also cautioned individuals against the sale and purchase of lands belonging to security services, advising people to desist from such practices. He stressed the need for individuals and organisations to respect the ownership and boundaries of security service lands, to ensure that these lands are used for their intended purposes.
The Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO II Franklin Masiku outlined several challenges facing the region, including office accommodation, resource constraints, and logistical difficulties.
He commended the Minister for his commitment and for showing keen interest in addressing the needs of the fire service, to enable them to achieve their mandate in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
