Following the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, and the President’s assent, the Ministry of the Interior wishes to inform the general public about the 2025 Public Holidays and Commemorative Days in Ghana.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
- New Year’s Day (1st January)
- Constitution Day (7th January)
- Independence Day (6th March)
- Good Friday (18th April)
- Easter Monday (21st April)
- Labour Day (1st May)
- Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan) (No fixed date)
- Shaqq Day (No fixed date)
(The day immediately after Eid-ul-Fitr)
- Eid-ul-Adha (Hajj) (No fixed date)
- Republic Day (1st July)
- Founder’s Day (21st September)
- Farmers Day (1st Friday in December)
- Christmas Day (25th Day)
- Boxing Day (26th December)
It is worth noting that 4th August has been taken out. However, 1st July which is Republic Day has been reintroduced.
COMMEMORATIVE DAYS
- African Union Day (25th May)
SUBSTITUTED HOLIDAYS
According to Section 3 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601) as amended by Section 3(2) of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1142), where a public holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, the President may, by executive instrument, declare Monday or Friday as a holiday.
Additionally, where a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the President may, by executive instrument, declare Monday as a public holiday.
It is to be noted that substituted holidays do not apply to Eid-ul-Fitr, Shaqq Day, Eid-ul-Adha, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
