The Hon. Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery has commended the Country Director for World Food Programme (WFP) in Ghana, Madam Barbara Clemens for her good works and support.

He noted that the continuous support by WFP is being felt positively on the ground and that the National IT Working Group which was formed by WFP aimed at putting resilient early warning systems with the focus on ICT is good and will go a long way to educate and alert people on disaster management issues.

Hon. Ambrose Dery, who made these remarks during a courtesy call on him in his office in Accra, also commended Madam Barbara Clemens for initiating South-South Triangular Cooperation with the Government of India on Disaster Management and Early Warning Systems for Resilient Preparedness and Response.

On her part, the WFP Country Director thanked the Minister for the meeting and his cooperation with the Programme. She briefed the Minister on what WFP is doing and has done in Disaster Management and Early Warning Systems in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and future collaboration with the Ministry to assist NADMO to upgrade their Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs) and how to also assist asylum seekers in Ghana.

She presented a report on the South-South Triangular Cooperation with the Indian Government to the Minister to study and subsequently signing an MoU with WFP relating to the operations of the National IT Working Group.

The Minister assured that he will study the report, consult Attorney General’s Department and revert soon.
