Following the June 19, 2018 dawn rains and the subsequent flooding of some parts of the Greater Accra Region, the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, accompanied by the Ministers for Defense, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul; National Security, Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah; the Director-General of NADMO, Nana Agyemang-Prempeh and the ACP, Dr. Sayiba Gariba, Director of Operations, Ghana Police Service, this morning flew over Accra to see the impact of the flood.

In a remark after the tour, Mr. Ambrose Dery indicated that as the Ministries responsible for the Security of the people, it was prudent that, they undertake this exercise to better appreciate the extent of damage and how it is affecting the well fare of the people.

To this end, the Mr. Dery has directed the National Disaster Management Organisation  (NADMO)as an immediate step, carry out a need assessment of the situation so as to inform the next line of action by Government.

According to the Minister, undoubtedly there is the need for a more drastic action in tackling the menace of houses being constructed on water ways and wetlands with its attendant effects.

He used the opportunity to commend the security Agencies, particularly, NADMO, Ghana Police Service, Fire Service and the 48 Engineering Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces for their coordinated efforts throughout the night when the rains began.

The areas affected by the flood included, Odawna, Dome Kwabenya, Madina, Adenta, Kisseiman and Tema Communities 18, 19, 20, 25.
