In a significant development, Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has led a delegation to China for a bilateral meeting with the Ministry of Public Security. The meeting marked a new chapter in law enforcement collaboration between the two countries.

Hon. Muntaka emphasized Ghana’s long-standing diplomatic relations with China, dating back to the country’s earliest days of independence. He noted that his visit opens up new avenues for cooperation in law enforcement, building on the strong historical ties between Ghana and China.

The Minister highlighted the complexity of modern challenges such as counter-terrorism, cyber-fraud, and transnational crimes, emphasizing the need for adopt modern technology to combat these threats. He also underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing the growing instability across the Sub-Saharan region.

The meeting identified key areas of collaboration, including Strengthening communication and cooperation across all levels of law enforcement, enhancing institutional capacity and personnel development in fighting transnational crimes and Capacity building for law enforcement officers.

The Hon. Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration with China in advancing law enforcement in Ghana, particularly in the areas of cybercrime, extradition, and capacity building.

The Vice Minister of China’s Public Security, H.E. Ling Zhifeng reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement cooperation with Ghana. He emphasized the importance of effective cooperation through INTERPOL.

The two sides discussed plans for future cooperation, including China’s bid for the position of Vice President of INTERPOL. China also pledged support for Ghana in addressing the crisis of illegal mining and protecting Chinese nationals in the region.

The bilateral meeting marked a significant step forward in Ghana-China relations, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in law enforcement and security. Both sides expressed optimism about the future of their partnership, with a renewed commitment to working together to address common challenges.
