The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on the Ghana Police Service to enhance its electoral preparedness and tackle security challenges facing the country.

Speaking at the Regional Commanders Conference of the Ghana Police Service in Accra, the Minister underscored the need for the Police to operate with neutrality, professionalism, and rapid response capability during elections.

Hon. Muntaka suggested international best practices to curb armed robberies, including predictive policing through data and intelligence, community policing revival, targeted special operations, smart surveillance technology, and rapid response units.

He warned that any police personnel found engaging in unauthorised protection services to celebrities, businesspeople, and political actors without proper approval will face strict disciplinary action. The Minister urged the Inspector General of Police to audit all current VIP protection arrangements and ensure full compliance with regulations.

He informed the Police personnel that the Government has earmarked a retooling fund of One Billion Ghana Cedis for the security services, with the Ghana Police Service expected to receive a significant portion of the fund.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno,noted that the conference served as a platform for reviewing strategies and tackling challenges, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of the police force in serving their communities.

 The IGP emphasised the importance of strategic planning and collaboration in addressing security challenges. He commended the Commanders for their successful efforts in disrupting criminal networks, highlighting the need for continued collective action to maintain public safety and security.
