Delivering the keynote address at the inauguration of the Police Ladies Association (POLAS) Headquarters Chapter, the Ag. Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Doreen Annan, called on the leadership of the Ghana Police Service to continue supporting the initiative and empower women in the service to lead, train and influence.

Mrs. Doreen Annan described the inauguration as a proud moment in POLAS’s history, emphasizing its role in fostering a united and professional network of policewomen. “This is not just a new beginning; it is a strong declaration that women in the Police Service are ready to lead, support each other and contribute meaningfully to the institution’s growth,” she stated.

Mrs. Annan acknowledged ongoing systemic challenges, including limited access to professional development opportunities for women. She reaffirmed the Ministry of the Interior’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and gender equity through ongoing reforms.

The Chief Director urged the new chapter to foster a culture of mentorship and proactive problem-solving while encouraging the Ghana Police Service leadership to support initiatives that empower female officers. She also called on the male colleagues to act as allies in building a balanced service culture, emphasizing that gender equity is an institutional priority.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, in his remarks, emphasised the importance of empowering women in the Police Service. The IGP also praised the women in the service who have attained both local and international feats in various sports disciplines, including football.

According to the National President of POLAS, COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the chapter was established in response to the growing number of female police officers at the headquarters, with its executives tasked with managing the day-to-day activities of women at the headquarters and providing a platform for policewomen to support each other, share experiences, and develop professionally.

COP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his continuous support, which has been instrumental in the growth and development of women in the service.
