The Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Wael Fathy, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak at his office in Accra, to strengthen bilateral ties with a focus on security sector collaboration.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the longstanding historical relations between Ghana and Egypt and explore practical ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as border security, counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and capacity building. The two sides discussed potential collaboration in intelligence sharing, police training, migration management, and countering emerging threats such as cybercrime.

Hon. Muntaka highlighted the deep historical bonds between the two nations, rooted in the Pan-African ideals championed by Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser.

The Minister noted that Ghana is keen to build on existing security cooperation, emphasising that such partnerships align with Ghana’s priorities of ensuring national safety and peaceful coexistence while contributing to regional stability under the African Union framework.

H.E. Fathy reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to sharing its expertise with Ghana. According to him, Egypt has demonstrated strengths in managing complex border security challenges and developing integrated internal security capabilities.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to sustain open dialogue and optimism that the discussions would lead to more tangible outcomes, including expanded training programmes, and translate shared goodwill into concrete security and development initiatives for the mutual benefit of Ghana and Egypt.
