The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. Abdouraouf Gnon Konde, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Oktletey Terlarbi, to discuss the ongoing realignment of UNHCR operations in Ghana as part of a global restructuring process.

During the meeting, Mr. Konde briefed the Deputy Minister on UNHCR’s various initiatives in Ghana, including agricultural projects aimed at empowering refugees and supporting host communities. He highlighted the agency’s commitment to providing expertise and continued collaboration with the Ghana Refugee Board to enhance refugee management and integration efforts.

Mr. Konde reaffirmed UNHCR’s dedication to supporting Ghana’s refugee management framework and expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts in fostering agribusiness as a pathway to economic growth.

Hon. Okletey Terlarbi commended UNHCR’s partnerships and initiatives, particularly its refugee integration programme, which he described as laudable. He noted that the programme will not only contribute to Ghana’s economy but also equips refugees with valuable skills for self-reliance.

The Deputy Minister also praised UNHCR’s focus on agribusiness, aligning with Government’s priorities in promoting agricultural development.

The UNHCR in Ghana used the opportunity to renew its commitment to working closely with the Government to ensure refugees are supported and integrated into the socio-economic framework of the country.
