The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned a fleet of vehicles and operational equipment under the Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCASS) to boost the Ghana National Fire Service’s (GNFS) operational capacity.
In his address, Hon. Muntaka described the occasion as significant, demonstrating Government’s collective commitment to strengthening emergency response and protecting lives and property across the country.
He noted that GNFS remains a critical institution within Ghana’s national security and emergency management architecture, responding daily to fires, road traffic accidents and rescue emergencies. He stressed that effective response depends not only on training and dedication, but also on modern, reliable and fit-for-purpose resources.
He added that the assets will strengthen the Service’s logistical and operational capacity, improve emergency response and enable personnel to carry out their responsibilities with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
The Interior Minister stated that rapid urbanisation, industrial expansion and increased vehicular movement have introduced new and complex emergency risks, making continuous investment in emergency institutions imperative.
Hon. Muntaka expressed sincere appreciation to AFCASS for its contribution, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in the GNFS and a commitment to public safety. He called on other corporate bodies and development partners to emulate the gesture and support national emergency preparedness.
The Minister, however, charged the leadership and personnel of the GNFS to ensure strict accountability and a strong maintenance culture in managing the assets.
He assured that Government will continue to support measures to improve the capacity, professionalism and welfare of emergency response institutions, while encouraging partnerships that bring technology, expertise and resources into the sector.
Hon. Muntaka urged officers who will operate the vehicles to exhibit discipline and dedication, saying that behind every emergency call is a person, family, business or community depending on your prompt and effective response.
The Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, noted that the vehicles and equipment alone cannot do the work and therefore urged officers to work hard to ensure the success of the AFCASS project.
