H.E. President John Dramani Mahama has launched Ghana’s first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, positioning the country to harness AI for inclusive growth while ensuring technology aligns with local values and culture.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, President Mahama called for the localization of AI to reflect Ghanaian values, ethics, and realities and said Ghana is determined to use AI wisely to enhance human conditions and other sectors where AI can drive transformation.

The National AI Strategy provides a roadmap to build a responsible, human-centered AI ecosystem in Ghana. It seeks to develop local talent and research capacity, promote AI adoption in key sectors, establish ethical and legal frameworks, and position Ghana as a regional hub for AI innovation.

The strategy also aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure no Ghanaian is left behind in the AI revolution.

President Mahama noted that nations worldwide are increasingly embracing AI for development, and Ghana must lead with purpose and should not be consumers of foreign AI alone. Ghana must build, own, and govern AI that understands the local languages, respects Ghanaian culture, and solves their problems.

The high-level event brought together government officials including Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Education, and Fisheries, as well as industry leaders, academia, and development partners.
