The Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) has convened a Ghana National Senior Level Strategic Dialogue in Accra to strengthen collaboration on preventing violent extremism and enhancing stability in Northern regions vulnerable to emerging threats.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, described Ghana as a beacon of peace in the sub-region, stressing that stability does not occur by accident but requires deliberate action. The Minister underscored the need for strong collaboration, timely and strategic interventions, and improved service delivery to address underlying vulnerabilities.
While acknowledging Ghana’s relative stability, Hon. Muntaka warned that the country is not immune to terrorist attacks and must remain proactive and productive in its response. The Minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to deepen coordination across sectors and sustain long-term efforts to prevent the spillover of violent extremism from the Sahel.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the implementing partner for the multi-donor CSSM initiative, hosted the high-level engagement. In her remarks, Ms. Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, Chief of Mission for IOM Ghana, commended Ghana’s strong leadership and ongoing reforms in the provision of security in the country.
She highlighted IOM’s commitment as a key partner to complement Ghana’s efforts and reassured participants of sustained backing to bolster state presence and community resilience in priority areas.
The dialogue also had in attendance Regional Ministers from the Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah Regions, where CSSM programming aims to increase locally accepted state presence, improve service delivery, and build community resilience against drivers of instability such as limited economic opportunities and exclusion.
The dialogue is expected to yield concrete recommendations for strengthening the implementation of stability-focused programmes in the targeted Northern Regions.
