The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to safe, orderly and well-managed migration after receiving new operational equipment for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) during the 2026 First Quarter meeting of the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration (NCM) in Accra.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister stated that the equipment, funded by the European Union (EU) and donated by International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the ATTU project, will strengthen Emergency Operation Centres to better manage internal displacements and reduce vulnerabilities faced by migrants, especially in the Upper East and Upper West Regions.
Hon. Muntaka described the NCM as “the most outstanding national platform” for coordinating migration work in Ghana. He commended the six Technical Working Groups under the NCM for driving progress on border security, migration data management, regular labour migration pathways, and the reintegration of returned migrants, all key to achieving the 23 objectives of the UN Global Compact for Migration.
“Setting up the NCM shows Government’s commitment to the GCM and to building a comprehensive migration governance structure for both internal and international migration,” the Minister said.
Hon. Muntaka thanked development partners, particularly the EU and IOM, for their continued support, and urged NCM members to keep working together for a fruitful year.
The new equipment is expected to boost NADMO’s capacity to respond swiftly to displacement and protection of vulnerable populations along Ghana’s northern corridors.
In his remarks, the EU Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Rune Skinnebach, noted that the donation is meant to strengthen the enforcement capacity of NADMO and strengthen the partnership with the Ministry of the Interior.
The Head of Mission for IOM, Madam Fatou Ndiaye, also noted that the donation is a good investment to strengthen the emergency response system to manage crises, adding that targeted trainings by IOM have helped NADMO build its capacity.
The various items presented, totaling 100, included drones, televisions, computers, and laptops.
