The Netherlands and Ghana are strengthening their cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime with the formal handover of a funding agreement to procure full-body scanners to replace the Narcotics Control Commission’s (NACOC) scanning equipment at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The handing-over ceremony, which took place at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, followed the closing ceremony of the 2-day High-Level Dialogue on Drug Markets in West Africa. The event was attended by Netherlands Minister for Justice and Security, Hon. Foort van Oosten, Ghana’s Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, and other officials, symbolizing the deepening partnership between the two countries.
The Dutch Government’s funding support will enable NACOC to procure new scanning equipment, enhancing its capabilities to detect and prevent narcotics trafficking.
On behalf of Ghana’s Government, Hon. Muntaka thanked the Dutch Government, noting that the scanners will significantly help prevent drug trafficking. He assured that the scanners, once procured, will be put to good use.
The partnership underscores the shared threat posed by drug trafficking and demonstrates the Netherlands and Ghana’s dedication to justice and security.
