Ghana and Egypt will next year mark 70 years of diplomatic relations, with the Government of Ghana calling for a stronger economic partnership to deepen trade, investment and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Speaking on behalf of the Government at the 74th National Day celebration of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Accra, Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, stated that Ghana-Egypt relationship is anchored on shared history, Pan-African ideals and mutual respect.
Honouring a Historic Foundation
Hon. Terlabi paid tribute to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and President Gamal Abdel Nasser, noting that their vision for African liberation laid the foundation for the cordial ties both nations continue to enjoy.
He noted that the 1952 Egyptian Revolution inspired many African countries in their quest for independence and self-governance. “Ghana proudly acknowledges Egypt’s historic contribution to Africa’s liberation and development,” he added.
The Deputy Minister ommended the growing presence of Egyptian companies in Ghana, stating that their investments are driving economic growth, industrial development, employment creation and skills transfer.
He also thanked Egypt for training opportunities provided to Ghanaian officials through the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.
“Opportunity exists for us to expand such engagements and identify new areas of cooperation with a view to deepening the partnership. Ghana remains committed to promoting greater private-sector collaboration,’ Hon Terlabi said.
On multilateral matters, the Deputy Minister praised Egypt’s leadership in the African Union and the United Nations. He expressed Ghana’s appreciation for Egypt’s support for the recent UN General Assembly Resolution which declared the trafficking of enslaved Africans as “the Gravest Crime against Humanity.”
He further acknowledged Egypt’s participation in the High-Level Consultative Conference on the resolution held in Accra in June 2026, describing it as evidence of a shared commitment to justice and the restoration of Africa’s cultural heritage.
H.E. Wael Fathy, Ambassador of Egypt to Ghana, commended Ghana for its support and assured of continuous stronger collaboration and cooperation between Ghana and Egypt for economic development.
