The Ministry of the Interior has outlined 5 thematic areas as priority areas to be pursued by the sector and its agencies in 2017
The five, which includes Management and administration, Crime Management, custody of inmates and correctional services, border security and refugee management and conflicts and disaster management have been carefully selected to meet the mandate of the supervising Ministry, the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the National Small Arms Commission and NADMO respectively.
Additionally, they are to help in ensuring good governance.
These came to the fore during the 2016 Annual Performance Review Workshop of the Ministry held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at GIMPA in Accra.
Addressing the participants which comprised of Directors of the Ministry and Heads of Agencies, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr. Henry Quartey, charged them to apply innovative and results – driven approach in the execution of the jobs to ensure effective execution of the priority projects and programmes.
“We must take the most effective and efficient path, and that to experience, calls for effective team work which I believe I can continue to count on you all” he said.
The Minister also implored the agencies to collaborate more with other non-governmental agencies in the collection of up-to date data on offences, arrest and prosecutions, particularly in human trafficking.
The one day workshop was to afford the Ministry the opportunity to take stock in respect of the implementation of its programmes, projects and activities for 2016, assess their achievements against set targets and device strategies to overcome the challenges.
It was also to provide a platform for the Ministry and its Agencies to review their work plans, establish linkages among programmes to eliminate duplications whilst ensuring continuity.
