The Government is set to procure 200 Rapid Intervention Vehicles (RIV) for the Ghana National Fire Service by the end of 2023 to augment its old fleet and also help the Service navigate its way through traffic to arrive at emergency scenes on time.
The RIVs, which have been multi-purpose fitted for fighting fires and road traffic extrication, are expected to be deployed to accident-prone areas, strategic locations with sensitive national installations, and District Fire Stations without fire engines in the country.
Inspecting one of the RIV which has been delivered to GNFS on a pilot basis at the forecourt of the Ministry of the Interior, the sector Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery stated that he is impressed with the vehicle and that it will help the Service improve its operations.
He said the provision of the vehicles attests to Government’s commitment to retooling the Security Service. He assured the GNFS that Government will continue to support them to achieve their mandate.
Hon. Ambrose Dery commended GNFS for establishing a Fire TV station. He urged them to use it to educate the public on fire safety and prevention of fire outbreaks in general in the country.
