A 3-day Capacity WORKS workshop on the establishment of Ghana National Commission on Migration (GNCM) has ended today in Ho, Volta Region of Ghana. The workshop organised by the Migration Unit of the Ministry of the Interior with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH – Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD), working on behalf of the Germany Government, brought together about 54 officials constituting members of the Technical Working Group of GNCM and Migration Desk Officers from about 26 stakeholder institutions in Ghana.

The Ministry is in collaboration with the Migration Governance Component of GIZ Ghana’s Programme Migration & Diaspora towards the establishment of the GNCM as proposed in the National Migration Policy.

Participants were taken through presentations on the GIZ Capacity Works Methodology; undertook SWOT-Analysis of the proposed GNCM; jointly did Actors Analysis of the GNCM and reflected on the Results model expected of the GNCM when it is established.

The participants were drawn from institutions such as Ministry of Interior; Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations; Centre for Migration Studies; Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, Ministry of Trade and Industry; Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Ghana Police; Ghana Immigration Service; Ghana Immigration Service;  Ministry of Finance; Bank of Ghana; Ghana Investment Promotion Centre; Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection; and Ghana Statistical Service among others.
