Torrential rains during the last two weeks of August and the first week of September this year have caused serious flood¬related disasters in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, parts of Western, Volta and Eastern Regions of Ghana with the three northrn regions being the worse affected. The situation was aggravated by the opening of the spillway of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso. 
Affected Communities
Over 156 communities in the Upper East Region, 421 in the Northern Region, 5 in the Upper West Region and 10 communities in the Western Region have all been affected. the President of the Republic of Ghana, HE President Kuffour has decleared the three nothern regions a DisasterZone. A Joint Assessment Team comprising government officials, development partners, NGO's and the private sector has just completed a general assessment of the disaster zone. Reports emerging from the assesment indicates that the destruction is massive and has affected dams, houses, bridges, roads, health facilities, schools and farms. A number of deaths have also been reported in these areas.
Meteo statistics indicate that the northern sector will still experience a considerable amount of rainfall.
